*Fixed bug where 2.43x interpreters are detected as newer than 2.917

Upgrades AGI interpreters 2.411 - 2.915 to version 2.917. Interpreters 2.917 and later are needed to properly play games with Tandy sound on EGA/VGA based systems.

Executables for both DOS and Windows are provided.

Why?
There have been some recent remakes of Covox compatible sound devices that plug into the printer port. Many moons ago a program named "temu" was written that can emulate Tandy sound using the Covox. Temu works great with AGI games when using the "-t" command line argument to start them, but graphical anomalies can occur on EGA/VGA systems when using an interpreter older than 2.917. The Nerdly Pleasures blog has a great article on how to update Sierra interpreters, but this requires users to manually copy files and then use a hex editor to change some values. This program simply takes care of all of those steps.

http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.ca/2015/03/cajoling-sierra-and-lucasarts-games-to.html

Download
For running on DOS or Windows:
* (ZIP file)

For running on Linux, Mac, Unix (you'll have to compile it yourself)
* (ZIP file)

Usage
Copy the .exe matching your operating system to the folder of the AGI game that you'd like to update. Then from the command line run the exe. It will tell you what interpreter you are currently using. If you are already at 2.917, it will confirm that you want to do the upgrade. If you are at a version later than 2.917 or earlier than 2.411 it will not perform the upgrade. After validation of the current interpreter, the program asks you to pick the name of the game you are upgrading. You can also enter your own game id if you've got some weird homebrew AGI game.

Old interpreter files are backed up to the "backup" folder inside the game directory.
Jeremy W. Hayes's AGIVER extracts the AGI interpreter version number from AGIDATA.OVL. Place in the same folder as your AGI game. Now has a Windows port.

"I allow anybody to use this code, and in fact want them to do so, So we have less gliches of sorts, from slight structure differences.

"Now you know the REAL reason behind version control, because I knew that we would run into this little problem sooner or later, and I'm ready, with plenty of information and data."

Description

Description
Ever tried to play one of your old keydisk AGI games in Dosbox? It doesn't work. Not even if you create an image file and run it from that. Dosbox just doesn't have the right routines to access your floppy drive in the low level manner needed to extract the decryption key. Sure you could load up SUP and find an old DOS machine to decrypt all your games, but that is a lot of work! ADFD decrypts protected files without having to read the original keydisk. Works from backups/installs of protected games (even on your hard drive), or you can execute it right on your original floppies (yikes!).

With a modified version of SUP, I was able to grab the decryption key off an old AGI game and compile it into the code of Brian Provinciano's AGI Decryptor. A few source code tweaks later and all was good. Versions for Windows, Dos16 (aka real mode) and Dos32 (aka protected mode) have all been compiled.

Now it's time to finally play all your ORGINAL AGI games in Dosbox. Make sure to set the Machine to Tandy so you get amazing 3 channel sound too!

Usage:
Copy this .exe into the folder of your protected game. Running the decryptor .exe alone will search for "sierra.com" (to find the key offset), and will create a decrypted AGI file called AGI.EXE (the file you will use to run your game). If your loader is named something other than "sierra.com", you just run the decryptor with that loader filename as the argument. It has not failed me yet!
Description
I took the ScummVM AGI games database and reformatted some of it into (sierragi.txt). People can add new games to the file without changing the programs code!

The source code is in C# .NET 2.0 for compatibility. The class for detection can be used by any other code you have, and can return a struct instead of just printing to the console. This should be useful to those wanting to do detection from their programs.

I really don't know anything about .NET dependencies, so if this doesn't run on your Windows, maybe you need to install a .NET runtime?

Why?
AGInfo is old, and there didn't seem to be anything else. I also wrote getVerA2 which decodes strings in AGI games looking for the version number (AGI 2 only at this time). The idea was "pure" in the sense that it doesn't require external data. What was unfortunate is that Sierra didn't use a standard for encoding version strings in their games, so the tool could miss something. It also couldn't find the date, since this was arbitrarily encoded into the game data, if it even existed at all.
